Short Circuit 2 (1988)
Siskel & Ebert gave the film “two thumbs up” and called the film “even better than the original.” In a 1988 Los Angeles Times article, the review noted that “Wilson and Maddock have improved considerably here….Their construction is more deft, their dialogue is better, and they make Number Five come more alive…” Rita Kempley of the Washington Post scored the film 6/10 saying, “…[Director Kenneth] Johnson pulls heartstrings with the best of them—or the worst, if you hate that sort of thing… if you’re a kid, or an adult with an Erector Set, you might just enjoy this summer-weight caper.”
Despite being set in New York they made virtually no effort to hide that it was filmed in Toronto.
I happen to love the sequel more than the original. When Johnny 5 goes all BAMF at the end, it’s kind of the best thing you’ve ever seen committed to film.
So…just had an inkling to watch this movie. This was my favorite of the care bear movies. There was summer camp, baby care bears and care bear cousins, dark heart, and I like to think a little flirtation between dark heart and Krissy. I must find this and watch it!
Fun fact: I used to cry like a baby when this movie would finish, the whole end credits with them in a canoe/boat in the rainbow lake/falls/water. To this day, I have no idea why and it was doubly bizarre because I never cried in front of people but for some reason this was on TV a lot and it was just agonizing to me for it to be over.
I couldn’t actually tell you the plot of this movie aside from something about summer camp and campers and Dark Heart. Even though I know I watched it a lot as a kid.
(Yes, McConaughey walked around with his shirt unbuttoned.)
I remember the McConaughey re-enactment like it was yesterday. He’s in a garage, I think working on his car, goes out to the drive way and then I believe he gets shot.
Honestly, it pops into my head now and again. A few Unsolved Mysteries re-enactments do from time to time.
Stop judging me!
