- Pack for the weekend; going home again, babies and such, dad’s going to fix my car, birthday shenanigans possibly (it’s on Monday, remember it tumblr! :P Just kidding, I don’t care - I’ll have to remember to change my bio info on the side there)
- Possible Fiddlers of Japan
- Bummed that there’s no hockey game or Jays game on tonight :(
- Clean up the apartment which should take five seconds, I’ve rarely been there the past week and I’m pretty tidy.
- Give the car the “Lisa 5-point inspection” before tomorrow’s trip. This is not as big a deal as the title would lead you to believe. It only involves checking fluids and tires and making sure that the current problem has a solution that will last the length of the car trip tomorrow (possibly 8 hours, I have a guest tomorrow on the trip for most of the way!)
So technical computer literacy is at a bare minimum which does not help me with my current laptop situation.
Last night, after getting home and turning it on, I notice the windows shield thingy and download the automatic updates. Then I kept hitting “restart later” because I was busy with some things first. Then I got up to get some water and when I got back a blue screen appeared with a bunch of error info. No big deal. Turned off the lappy and waited to turn her back on. Got half way to loading and then it does it again. Can’t get it into safe mode. Give up and bring it to work for help.
Somebody finally gets it into safe mode but now it won’t load. Just goes back to the error message. Ugh! Now what??? Extensive googling and such has provided little results except that I should try recovery with the start up disc(s). I’m hoping that I have them here in my apartment, I honestly can’t remember. Though, I’m getting warnings that this might corrupt whatever problem I have further. Yay.
Soooo, sometimes, if I’m watching something and I want to IMDb something about it or it reminds me of something else to/just watch(ed) and I’m in a comfortable position at my desk (the tv is up and to my right) with a hand on the mouse and the other arm keeping my head up, I like to try and just click through without typing a thing to find the right page. My best (or worst, depending on how you think about it) is 9 clicks. I like to think of it as ‘best’ only because that’s a lot of connections to make in advance.
It’s kind of like a Six Degrees variation.
Example: I have National Treasure: Book of Secrets on (CBC Sunday night movie *shrug* it’s enjoyable for now, Giants/Colts is at halftime)^ and I was just curious when the third one comes out. So I click IMDb. I click on The Town because it has won the weekend box office and I know that Chris Cooper is in it. He was also in Adaptation which starred Nicholas Cage and voila! I’m onto Cage’s developing projects.
^It helps that Ty Burrell and Bruce Greenwood are in it.
- Make soup and/or chili - Movies; at the very least one (King’s Speech) if not two (Black Swan?) - Wii it up! - Possibly watch one of the 15 movies that have been sitting on my PVR for ages - Get started on The Wire which friends lent to me, first season. I’ve been meaning to but I just haven’t gotten to it. It’s even out and ready next to the DVD player, I really should - I’m adding: take out the garbage, as it has to be taken outside, so it deserves an actual point- Put the rest of my clothes away that are still in suitcases and then put the suitcases away- Clean the window sill and all of the blinds (soooo dusty and broken)- Unpack the very last box! It’s basically books that need a home somewhere as I have no bookshelves- Sweep!- Fooooooooootball!
Often in my job I have to collect student information to write bios for donors when they receive scholarships/fellowships/etc.
So I get a lot of CVs and resumes to use to mine information from.
Some of them are really poorly done and it takes every ounce of my being to not go all reformat on their asses before I hit ‘print’.
My Diagnosis: The DRL module is f’ed
Prescription: Replace one fuse in the kick panel (that I dropped after checking and therefore ripped up some panelling to unsuccessfully get at) and no night-time driving
Cure: Rip out the module (that’s all you dad, not gonna touch it) and either fix, replace, or do nothing but leave it out
This is actually not as horrible as I feared but it required me to book next Friday off work to go home to deal with it. Hey, I don’t have any soldering materials and my dad works for free and that is important. Well, I might get him some Timmy’s coffee but that twoonie’s worth still pretty much makes it free. Plus, he often pushes gas money on me. The man is relentless in trying to give me some “float in my pocket”, truly.
At least a) I have plenty of vacation days to use 2) we’re kind of forbidden from using them in the autumn at work (not actually but it’s our busiest time so use them up in the summer is the motto) and 3c) an extra weekend of a/c!
Currently trying to make sure I know as much of the Neutral Milk Hotel/Jeff Mangum catalogue as possible in preparation for Saturday, so I don’t embarrass my friends or myself.
I’ve been a casual fan at best over the years (I’m terribly bad at keeping up with indie bands - particularly those who are elusive in the way NMH/JM has been - because I think maybe I’m spread thin with a lot of different interests*) and I’ve already said I’m really not cool enough to be allowed entrance into this show, so I just don’t want to stand out more like a sore thumb than I already will.
I knew 3 songs and one cover beforehand. Now I know 8 maybe?
*That’s what all the losers say.
I only put 1/3 of the sugar though, so that makes it health food right?
